Florida 2004, Hurricane Charlie, Sept 24/25
Captiva, Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte
|
The following digital photos where taken on September 24 and 25 at Captiva, Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte, about a month after Hurricane Charlie had passed through the area. I was down visiting my parants and some friends and was stunned by the amount of damage. To add insult to injury, the rain that was falling on my camera while photographing on the 25th was from the front of Hurricane Jeanne, the 4th major hurricane of the year to hit Florida. The brunt of Jeanne would pass just north of Tampa on the morning of the 26th, about 100 miles north of Charlotte Harbor, and 50 miles north of my friends house in Venice where I was staying that night. Jeanne packed 100mph winds and stayed to the north, but since the storm was moving slowly, a huge surge piled up the Gulf waters along the costal areas, including Charlotte Harbor where the worst flooding was reported. Many of the areas devastated by Charlie now found themselves under several feet of water. |
