Photos from this page where taken during two separate trips to the Bahamas in 1995 and 1996. Both aboard the Nekton Pilot. The Nekton Pilot is an unusual live aboard dive boat which floats on submerged pontoons. The depth and ballast of these pontoons can be adjusted based on wave heights and boat speed. The effect of proper pontoon depth control all but eliminated the wave motion of the boat. Similiar technology is used to stabilize Navy Radar platforms in the North Atlantic. The boat did have a weird side to side motion that took a bit of getting used to, but it didn't rock and I didn't get seasick :) Truly it was a fun boat to live on for a week and I cried when I had to leave. |
